EIAC Claims two state championships in girls’
track
Three schools tie for 20th

Two girls representing Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference (EIAC) schools
claimed state championships in girls’ track in competition at the Robert C.
Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington
Friday evening.
In the girls’ high jump, sophomore Ellie Tidman of Batesville claimed her second
state title with a leap if 5’ 9 1/2” while senior Katherine Klump of South
Dearborn won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:10.20.
Both girls came tantalizingly close to state-record marks as the records are
2:09.82 in the 800 run and 6’ even in the high jump.
East Central got fifth place finishes from the 4x800 relay team and Kristal
Studer in the 1600 run to forge a tie with the other two EIAC schools.

Greensburg was represented by Mollye Leas in the discus and Erica
Schwering in the shot put. Leas finished 24th, an improvement of three slots on
her seeding while Schwering’s throw of 37’6” was a personal best and good for a
20th-place finish.
Other non-scoring female athletes were: Valerie Wagner of Jac-Cen-Del who
finished 24th in the 100 dash, Brooke Ingle of East Central in the 400 dash and
Kayce Dooges of East Central who finished 18th in the 3200 run and Erin Cox who
captured 21st place in the high jump. East Central also ran in the 4x400 relay
and finished 21st.
The only other school to score in the boys’ competition on Saturday was Franklin
County. Jeremiah Vaughn finished sixth in the 1600 run. He also competed in the
3200 run finishing 12th.
The only other EIAC competitor was Tyler Giesting who was 13th in the 800 run.
Two athletes represented Mid-Hoosier Conference schools compete in the field
events, Kyle Schilling of Triton Central placed 14th in the discus and Cory
Hancock of Indian Creek placed 24th in the shot.
Jeremy Pratt of Rushville finished 13th in the pole vault.
