General Notes:
THE CREATION OF NORTH AND SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP ALLEGHENY COUNTY IN 1846
.....
Finally, according to law regulating elections (July 2, 1839 P.L. 519) it was necessary for the state legislature to recognize each township as an election district. In the Act of February 23, 1847 P.L. 135 (Act No. 97), elections in North Fayette were to take place in the house of Francis JAMISON, (p. 115) at Roger's Mill (sec.5), and in South Fayette at the house of H. HAYS on the farm of G. Y. COULTER (sec. 10). Officials were also appointed to hold township elections on the third Friday of March, 1847. Once that election had been completed, the townships were completely established as local municipal governments in Allegheny County.
