(1978) Marion Gorby and his wife lived on a farm on Carney Fork of Rocky Run Creek, near Silver Hill, WV. In 1909 they moved to Athens, OH, where he conducted a dairy and stock farm. He was one of the fifth generation Gorbys attending the Paden City, WV reunion in 1935. Tall, erect, with quite a soldierly bearing, he thoroughly enjoyed mingling with the throng of Gorbys assembled there. His son Calvin was president of the Association for two years.
Ref: DCG1 2.23.98 - The original house on Marion Gorby's farm was destroyed by fire in 1922. The story is that his wife Ruth was sweeping up around the fireplace and did not notice that some embers were caught in the broom. The fire broke out in the pantry after the broom was put away. His grandson Darrel Gorby recalled that in his later years, his "grandpap" loved to be driven around the farm in an old Model T Ford so he check up on the further parts of the farm. He always wore a big, old floppy hat while riding in the Model T. 1
