Notes for LESSIE IRENE HARTZOG:
Lessie was shy in her earlier years. During primary school times a girl by the name of Marie would fight any battle for Lessie. It was at Jimmie Lee's house that Lessie was introduced to Hubie Hardy. Another friend of Lessie's was Shannon Russell. He gave her a beautiful ring.
When my mother got a copy of her birth certificate she got a real shock. The name, location, names of parents, all agreed with the information she had been given over the years. The date and the gender was different. Clearly typed on the birth certificate was "male." A husband, nine children, and all her friends would disagree. This is just another example of how information on primary sources can be wrong.
The author had opportunity in April 2001, to visit mother's birthplace for the first time. It has been a privilege to take my siblings by for a visit from time to time.
Mother collected short sayings, or truths, about common human behavior to promote wisdom, understanding and learning. One of her favorite book of poems was "The Progress of Another Pilgrim"
by Rev. McKinney.
My mother's gifts, talents, abilities, concerns, cares, quirks, faults, needs, desires were many. However the greatest thing she left her descendants is a Christian heritage. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour under the ministry of Rev. C. L. Duck and thereafter followed the Assembly of God doctrine. 1
Lessie married Thomas Hubie Hardy, son of Joseph P. Hardy and Virginia Ella Brookins, on 27 Nov 1926 in Panama City, Bay County, Florida, USA. (Thomas Hubie Hardy was born on 9 Feb 1902 in Houston Co., AL and died on 1 May 1970 in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida, USA.)
