Gladys was the 2nd wife of Jacob Augustine "Jake" Ruther, and was a daughter of Joseph Kirkland "Joe" Alexander, Sr. and Frances Leitha "Fannie" Hancock Alexander, also buried at Pine Grove's cemetery.

Except for working on the family tobacco farm while growing up in Darlington and Florence counties, Gladys was a food server at restaurants most of her life, several of those years in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and once worked in Florence, South Carolina at Howard Johnson's, and worked for many years in Columbus, Ohio. During the last few years of her life she worked for a now-defunct electronics capacitor factory in Florence called Electro-Motive.

She had one child, Patrick Val'ere "Val" McGinness, Sr., has one grandson, Patrick Val'ere "Patrick" McGinness, Jr., and one deceased grandson, Robert Charles "Robby" McGinness, one great grandson, Blake Val'ere, and one great granddaughter, Savannah Sue McGinness. 2


Gladys married Wilbur Frank "Pat" McGinness, son of James Leonard McGinness and Sophia Leas. (Wilbur Frank "Pat" McGinness was born on 11 Jun 1922 in Higginsville, Lafayette Co, Missouri, died on 29 Mar 1979 in Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee and was buried in Nashville National Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA.)
