Migration(1): He located on 160 acres of unbroken forest. Later he made additional purchases until the farm contained 280 acres. They built a log cabin on the original tract in 1852. Isabella helped him to clear the land and they made it into
a substantial farm home.

Jacob, Isabell and their sons John T. and Marven in addition
to a Savilla Shipe listed as a domestic servant. Possibly
she is a relative since she has the same name as Isabell's

Originally published in The Waterloo Press on Thursday, February 3, 1887:

Jacob Leas, living four miles northwest of Hudson, died suddenly of heart disease, of which he been afflicted for several years, on Tuesday, Jan 25, 1887, having been born in Guernsey County, Ohio, March 8, 1821, aged 65 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Deceased came to this State in March, 1851 and married Isabella Shipe in October, from which union there were born two sons and two daughters, who, with his companion, five grandchildren, three brother and two sisters survice. The funeral services were in the M.E. church at Hudson, on Friday, Jan 28, the Rev. Simpson, presiding elder of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. A.C. Gerard, officiated, after which the remains were deposited in the county line cemetery, followed by a large circle of relatives and friends. The deceased was universally respected.

(Isabella Shipe was born on 29 Jul 1830 in Mt Pleasant Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA, died on 26 Sep 1901 and was buried in County Line Cemetery, Hudson, Steuben Co, Indiana.)
