At the age of nearly 92 years, Sarah A. E. Harmes, mother of Charles Knapp of West Fifth street, died Tuesday morning at 7:30 from infirmities incidental to old age. She was one of the oldest residents of DeKalb county both in age and in point of years she has resided in this county. She came to this county in 1840.
She was a daughter of Calvin and Keziah Clakins and was born in Essex county, N. Y., December 20th, 1828. She was therefore 91 years, 9 months and 1 day old.
In 1833, she moved with her parents to Sandusky county, Ohio, and in the year 1840 to DeKalb county, locating on a 160 acre farm which was then forest land in Richland township. March 30th, 1848, she was united in marriage to Charles C. Knapp who died December 12th, 1851. Later she was married, January 13th, 1870 to Henry Harmes who died July 3rd, 1906. Since that time she has made her home with her son, Charles in Auburn.
He is the only surviving relative of near kin. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the home on West Fifth street. Rev. H. L. Overdeer of the Methodist church officiated. She was buried beside Mr. Knapp at the Corunna cemetery. (Newspaper and date unkown) 2
Sarah married Henry Harmes, son of Frederick Harmes and Mary, on 13 Jan 1870. (Henry Harmes was born on 30 Dec 1822 in Hanover, Germany and died on 3 Jul 1906.)
Sarah next married Charles C. Knapp on 30 Mar 1848. (Charles C. Knapp died on 12 Dec 1851 2 and was buried in Corunna Cemetery, Corunna, Dekalb County, Indiana, USA.)
