Alt. Spelling/AKA

* The family surname may have been "Brandenberger." Celia Lease's obituary stated it was "Brandenberg," but almost all other records spell it in ways that indicate the name was the slightly longer version. Her father, Michael, was named "Brandenburg" in the 1860 census, which is the only other time it appeared with a similar spelling that has presently been found. Also, there is one listing in the Social Security index online for a person name Lorrayne Brandenberg (born 1904, died 1992) in Lee County, Iowa.

Research

* Elizabeth's father, Michael, immigrated from Baden to the United States between 1850/60. He was first married to a woman named Christina, also of Brandenburg, and they had at least two (probably more) children, one of whom was born in Iowa, the other in Baden.

Christina apparently died by 1870, when Michael married Mary Kutton (LDS reports the spelling of her surname "Chitton").

Research

* Eliabeth is not listed with her parents in the 1870 federal census, so apparently she was born after that was taken June 27, 1870.

Research

* There are two sisters, a "Lizzie" and Katie "Bredgushmoper," living together in Fort Madison, Iowa in 1900. Possibly these could be Elizabeth and her sister Catherine. The birth month and year on the cewnsus image for Elizabeth was October 1872, which doesn't match with the gravestone information from Lee County. For Katie it was December 1863, which would be possible to be Catherine.
