Sheriff of Fife from 1529 to 1540 and a Lord of Session from 1541 and a Lord of the Articles from 1544. He was tried for the murder of Cardinal Beaton and acquitted. He was ambassador to Denmark in 1550. ²

George married Agnes Somerville, daughter of Sir John Somerville of Cambusnethan and Elizabeth Carmichael, on 1 Apr 1509 in Bute Island, Scotland. (Agnes Somerville was born in 1490 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and died on 10 Apr 1543 in Rothesay, Elgin, Bute Island, Scotland.)
