He was born about 1654 in New Netherlands, Dutch Colony (near present day Albany, NY), son of Anthony de Hooges and Aefie Albertse Bradt de Hooges. He married Margarita Post, daughter of Captain Adrian Crijnen and Claartje Moockers Post, on 4 Dec 1675 in Kingston, Province of New York, British Colony. They were parents of seven children: Eva, Claartje, Annetie, Antoni, Cathrina, Marytje and Johanna.
Johannes was made captain at Hurley on 24 Apr 1689. He died about 1738 in Hurley where they lived not far from Kingston. He was probably buried in Kingston.
