Carl W. Lockhart, 75, of Pleasant Lake, died early Monday in the Veterans Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 pm today (Wednesday) at the Swank-Ross Funeral Home in Ashley with the Reverend Russell Brayton, pastor of the Pleasant Lake Baptist Church, officiating. Full military services were held at graveside in Pleasant Lake Cemetery.
Masonic memorial services were conducted at the funeral home at 7:30 pm Tuesday.
Lockhart was born in Fairfield Township, DeKalb County, October 15, 1894, a son of the late Robert W. and Mary Hartman Lockhart. He had lived in Pleasant Lake the past 48 years and was retired from the gravel business.
A World War I veteran, Lockhart was a member of the American Legion, Angola Post 31, and the Veterans of Foriegn Wars, Angola. He also was a member of the Ashley Masonic Lodge No 614 and the Pleasant Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nina Blair, two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Robinett, of Hamilton and Mrs. Roberta Sommerlott, of Fremont; one son, I.W. [Irvin W.] Lockhart of Waterloo; three stepchildren, Mrs. Basil Miller, Hudson; Mrs. Dean Powers, Pleasant Lake; and Ernest Vance, of Pickerinton, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brother, Robert Lockhart, of Defiance, ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Conrad, of Ashley, and Mrs. Edna Quaintance, of Auburn. 2
