Doris M. Leas
EAST BERLIN Doris M. (Pifer) Leas, 79, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at York Hospital. She was the wife of Fred L. Leas, her husband of 62 years. She was born March 4, 1929, in York, the daughter of the late Chester C. and Mabel E. (Strine) Pifer. Mrs. Leas was a member of Zwingli U.C.C., East Berlin. She was a charter member and former president of the East Berlin Historical & Preservation Society. She was also a member of the York Historical Society, York Bottle Club Association, and Cannonaders Square Dance Club, Gettysburg. Mrs. Leas served as a former Cub Scout Leader and former president of the Reading Twp. PTA. She was an avid quilter and gardener. Her gardens were featured many times on the house and garden tours in East Berlin and were also featured in ''Better Homes & Gardens'' magazine. In addition to her husband, Fred, she is survived by four sons, Bennett L. Leas and his companion, Tamara Krebs, Michael E. Leas and his wife, Tina, Leon C. Leas and his wife, Sally, and Fred L. Leas, Jr. and his wife, Julie, and a daughter, Iris K. Nelson and her husband, Jim, all of East Berlin; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica D. Webb; and a sister, Beverly Rife. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Harrisburg St., East Berlin, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Margaret J. Wise, officiating. Burial will be in Mummert's Church Cemetery, Abbottstown. A viewing will be held Thursday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Bennett Leas. Michael Leas, Leon Leas, Fred Leas, Jr., Jason Webb, Chad Leas, Daryl Leas, and Bill Ceravola. Memorial contributions may be made to Zwingli U.C.C., 403 W. King St., East Berlin, PA 17316.
