COSHOCTON - Dalton Eugene Ferrell, 86, died at his Coshocton Health and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, July 22, 2006. Born Feb. 16, 1920, in Dresden, he was a son of the late Richard and Anna Mary (Haegan) Ferrell. He attended Dresden High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 through 1947, in the 42nd Infantry Division, stationed in Salzburg, Austria. "Gene" was raised on a farm and engaged in agriculture for most of his active years. He was a past Master of Adams Mills Grange and was recognized by the Future Farmers of America as a friend and support. For several years he was the area representative for Dekalb Seed Corn Company. A few years following retirement from farming he was employed as a Security Guard at Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. Being always active, his last years involved enjoying his home and large family and helping his children with home maintenance and construction projects. A loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather, he will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Della (Bendure) Ferrell, whom he married May 25, 1947; a son, Dalton Eugene Ferrell II of Marietta; four daughters, Mary Martin (Dean Myron) Leas of West Lafayette, Barbara Jean Mainwaring of Coshocton, Bonita Faye (Joseph) Gerardi of Columbus and Elaine (Rocky) Smith of Coshocton; 10 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia King of Coshocton and Anna Margaret Russell of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Charles Ferrell of Dresden; two brothers-in-law, Charles Johnson of Norwich and the Rev. William Babb of Marian, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris (Charles) Johnson, Wanita (George) Houston and Vivian (Fred) Faulhaber. At Dalton's request, cremation will be followed by a graveside for the public at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at South Lawn Cemetery. Given-Dawson Funeral Home will handle arrangements.
