THEY SPOKE GERMAN, NO ENGLISH, SO IT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND THE VARIED SPELLING OF THE NAME, PLUS SOME OF THE MICRO FILMS ARE FADED AND DIFFICULT TO READ. BESIDES THEY GENERALLY COULD NOT READ OR WRITE. ABOUT THE TIME OF THE END OF THE CIVIL WAR, WILLIAM VISITED THE FOLKS IN INDIANA, HE CLAIMED TO SPEAK SEVEN LANGUAGES, BUT NON OF THEM ENGLISH.
