ASHLEY - Ronald "Vance" Leas, 86, of Ashley passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler.

He was born January 16, 1928 in Hudson in Steuben County to Warren E and Leola M (Spangler) Leas.

He was a graduate of Ashley High School and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Ashley.

Vance was a local farmer raising dairy and beef cattle and a self-employed milk and grain hauler for 50 years. He drove school bus for DeKalb Central Schools for 35 years.

He married Elizabeth "June" Rasler on July 29, 1950 in Ashley and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons and two daughters, Rebecca (Paul) Yoder of Auburn, Michael (Kay) Leas of Ashley, Cindy (Mark) Jennings of Butler and Thomas (Jean) Leas of Indianapolis; a sister, Phyllis Knight of Lancaster CA; 14 grandchildren, Kristy Tanko, Carolyn Smith, Jenny Smith, Lela Holben, Jim Leas, April Holden, Heather Atz, Mackenzie Mickle, Kenny Jennings, Jeff Jennings, Jill Zwickl, Rachael Trent, Vicki Leas, Larry Leas; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Leas; a sister, Latrielle Reinoel; and six brothers, Lawrence Leas, Lyle Leas, Eugene Leas, Arnold "Jake" Leas, Robert Leas and Rex Leas.

Services are 11 AM Thursday. January 23, 2014 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo, IN. Burial in Lake Bethel Cemetery, Lagrange. Calling is 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. ²
