Mr. Philip Gushwa, Sr., died on Monday at his home in Fairfield township, at the advanced age of 82 years and 3 months. His remains were interred at the Fairfield Center burying ground. Mr. Gushwa settled in Fairfield township in about the year 1843, and since then has been honored and respected by all his neighbors. He was one of the pioneers of the county, not only in regard as one of the first settlers, but during the hardships, of the back woods settlement, and the sturdy manner with which he aided in the development of the country, as well as in raising a large family consisting of five sons and five daughters, who survive him. The deceased was well known among the earlier settlers of the county, and for upwards of thirty years past he has been a member of the Evangelical church. He retained the vigor of life until he reached a remarkable age, and was able to walk around, until almost thirty days since, when his strength gradually failed him until his death. Funeral services today, conducted by Reverends Oaks and Stoops.
