Annual Leas Reunion Held At School Park

The Leas family, one of the pioneer families of Northeastern Indiana, held their 72nd annual family reunion at the School Memorial Park pavilion at Waterloo on Sunday, August 3, 1952.  Descendants of Addie Leas Waterman served as hosts and hostesses.  Her son, Otto Leas Waterman, presided.  A picnic dinner was served cafeteria style.  The invocation was given by Ed S. Lautsenhiser.

Belle Waterman reported the marriage of Norman Leas Taylor of Hamilton and Jean Wesley of Muncie, Sept. 23, 1951.  Births of Rebecca Sue, daughter of Vance Leas, Ashley, Dec. 11, 1951; Glen Wesley Eddy, daughter of Vivian Harrison Eddy, Seattle, Wash., September 8, 1951; William Thompson, son of Doris Whysong Thompson, Kendallville, Jan. 16, 1952; Joyce Ann Fuller, daughter of Dawn Holthuess Fuller, Waukegan, Ill.

Deaths were: Sarah Catherine Leas, age 92, Warsaw, Ind.; R. Earl Peters, age 65 of Ft. Wayne, at Coral Gables, Fla., Feb 18, 1952; Gail Yontz of Massillon, Ohio; Mrs. Anise Leas, Los Angeles, Cal., May 18, 1952; John Logan Beard, Crooked Lake, June 3, 1952; Stanley Shane Morrison, Steubenville, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1951; Mrs. Olive Miser Shephard, in Ohio, June 12, 1952.

Beverly Jean Leas, winner of a National Baton Award, gave an exhibition of baton twirling.

The 1953 meeting will be held in the same place at Waterloo on the first Sunday in August.
