Leas Reunion Held at Park Pavilion, Sunday
(This article was cut from a newspaper, most likely the Auburn Evening Star)The Leas family held its 73rd annual family reunion in the School Memorial Park Pavilion her, Sunday, August 2. Descendants of Martin Van Buren Leas served as hosts and hostesses.
Van Wysong, a grandson from Fort Wayne served as president. Fay W. Leas, another grandson of Fort Wayne is historian of the group. He compiled the first Leas genealogy in 1930. A second edition was published in 1950. Estella Leas Peters, Fort Wayne serves as permanent secretary, assisted by her grand daughters, Patricia and Sally Fleming, of Fort Wayne.
The historian reported the deaths of (can't read) Lucy Leas Gough at Akron, Ohio, September 24, 1952; Mrs. Carl Leas at Angola, October 24, 1952 and Rollin Bixler at Souders hospital, Auburn in May 1953. One marriage, Barbara Ann Leas and William Francis Gately, October 25, 1952, San Francisco, Calif. Births: Nancy Ruth Taylor, daughter of Roscoe and Olga Taylor, Hamilton, Sept. 20, 1952; George Hamilton Edwards, son of Dr. R. S. and Jean Taylor Edwards at Renssalaer, April 5, 1953; John Oster, son of Leland and Corine Oster, Waterloo, June 7, 1953, died the same day; Laurlie Christine Leas, daughter of Robert Lemare and Estella Leas, Fort Wayne, May 28, 1952; Patricia Ann Knight, June, 1953 in Hollywood, California; Marianne Leas, daughter of Blaine and Gertrude Leas, Fort Wayne, July 22, 1953.
A picnic dinner was served and music was provided for dancing.
Relatives were present from Hudson, Helmer, Ashley, Auburn, Angola, Waterloo, Hamilton, Fort Wayne, Kendallville, Lafayette, Detroit, Michigan and Monona, Iowa.
Officers for the 1954 meeting are Bert Leas, president, LaVerne, Minn.; Vern Sparks, vice-president, Albany, Ind.; Mabel Lautzenhiser, treasurer, Pleasant Lake; Estella Leas Peters, Fort Wayne, secretary; Patricia and Sally Fleming, Ass't. secretary's; Fay W. Leas, Fort Wayne, historian.
