Leas Family To Meet At Waterloo again in 1956
(This article was from the Auburn Evening Star)The Leas family reunion will be held in Waterloo the first Sunday in August, 1956 it was decided at the 75 annual meeting of the group Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Waterloo Memorial park.
Mrs. R. Earl Peters of Ft. Wayne was elected president of next year's reunion; Mrs. Earl D. Leas of Waterloo, vice-president; Mrs. Robert Flemming of Fort Wayne, acting secretary, Mr. Flemming, treasurer and the Misses Patricia and Sally Flemming of Fort Wayne, assistant secretaries. One hundred and one persons attended the reunion this year.
Descendants of John S. Leas were hosts and hostesses at the reunion this year. A son, Lloyd Leas of Waterloo, acted as president in the absence of his sister, Candus Leas Kennedy of Angola.
Mr. Ferne Leas Bloom of Waterloo was in charge of the program. Music was furnished by Lyle S. Leas of Auburn and his brother, Rex Leas, a music instructor from Plant City, Fla. Shelia May Atkinson of LaGrange sand a solo, Fay W. Leas of Fort Wayne talked on "75 Reunions" and Mrs. Mildred Grogg, librarian at Waterloo, spoke about "The Leas Family as Neighbors".
The statistical report included the deaths of Edna Taylor of Hamilton on April 13, 1955; Estella Leas Emerson, LaVerne, Minn. on Aug. 6, 1955; Otto Leas Waterman, Waterloo, May 6, 1955; the marriages of Beverly Jean Leas and David John Timberlin, Auburn, on Dec. 11, 1954; Shirley Ann Leas and Russell Lawrence, Coldwater, Mich., on June 25, 1955; Joyce Perkins and Charles E. Oberlin, Pleasant Chapel, March 26, 1955; and Steven Feagler and Mary Ellen Wray at Chicago, Ill.; births of Sue Ellen, the daughter of Maj. and Mrs. Carrol Leas on Oct. 16, 1954; Anita Kay Leas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine D. Leas, Peoria, Ill.; Marilyn Faye and Maxine Mae Freed, twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Freed, Kendallville; Mark Alan Cameron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cameron in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 20, 1954; Sherry Ann Frick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Frick, Stroh, Ind., May 6, 1955; Donald Ray Pfefferkorn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pfefferkorn in Brushy Prairie on July 27, 1955.
