East Central sweeps track titles

The Pirate track teams joined Batesville and Jennings County at East Central for a four-team meet Monday.

The host Trojans won both team titles on the night.

For the Lady Pirates, Erica Schwering won the shot put with a toss of 33-5 1/2. Teammates Sabrina Smiley (30-7) and Emily Oesterling (30-3) were second and third respectively.

Smiley came back to win the discus in 98-5 with Mollye Leas second (93-3), Schwering third (92-8) and Joyciann Taylor fifth (65-7).

In the high jump, Tawna Chauncy took second at 4-8. Tara Ramer was fourth (4-8) and Casey Nelson fifth (4-6). Nelson took third in the pole vault at 6-0.

Katie Burns took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14-2 1/2.

Taryn Owens won the 100 hurdles with a time of :16.34. She came back to made it a double by winning the 300 hurdles in :51.50.

In the 400, Greensburg’s Shelbi Reed took third in 1:08.21.

Brianna Parsons finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:47.

Veronica Tuley ran to second place in the 3200 (13:00).

In the relays, Greensburg took second in the 3200 relay, third in the 400 relay and second in the 1600 relay.

For the Pirates, Landon Wenning had the lone even win with a first place finish in the 1600 (4:45). Wenning also took second in the 800 (2:03.53).

In the shot put, Jordan Moore took second with a toss of 39-10 1/2. Elijah Harter took third in the discus (113-9) with George Myer fourth (113-1) and Kyle Menkedick fifth (111-5).

Matt Novak jumped two second in the long jump with a distance of 19-0 1/2.

Matt Little finished second in the high jump at 6-0 with Novak third at 6-0.

In the 110 hurdles, Dougan took fourth (:18.30) followed by Craig Schwipps fifth (:18.47) and Ben Fischer sixth (:21.12).

Todd Noah finished fifth in the 100 with a time of :11.88. Colton Black was fourth in the 200 (:24.43) with Nick Booker fifth (:24.96).

In the 400, Cory Koors was fifth in :56.93. Curtis Nieman finished fifth in the 3200 with a time of 11:39 and Wenning was sixth in 12:07.

In the relay, Greensburg took third in the 400 relay, second in the 3200 relay and second in the 1600 relay.
