Pirates, Lady Pirates second in EIAC

The EIAC track teams converged on South Dearborn for the annual conference meet. East Central walked away with a sweep of the team titles with Greensburg taking second in both boys and girls.

For the boys, East Central tallied 136 for the team title. The Pirates finished with 87 followed by South Dearborn 82, Batesville 71, Lawrenceburg 71 and Franklin County 47.

In the 800, Greensburg’s Landon Wenning was the conference champion with a time of 2:00.19.

In the pole vault, Greensburg’s Jay Myers claimed the conference title with a height of 12-5. Jon Herbert was fourth at 9-0.

Matt Novak won the long jump title for the Pirates with a leap of 20-2.

George Myers added another conference championship for Greensburg by winning the discus with a distance of 129-1.

Greensburg’s Colton Black finished seventh in the 200 at :24.72.

Cory Koors took eighth in the 400 with a time of :56.87.

Zach Powell took fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:58.47.

Curtis Nieman ran an 11:09.33 to place sixth in the 3200.

Greensburg’s Andrew Dougan took fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of :18.21 with fellow Pirate Craig Schwipps seventh at :19.02.

Schwipps came back to finish sixth in the 300 hurdles in :45.81.

Greensburg’s 400 relay team of Todd Noah, Novak, Elijah Harter and Black finished sixth in :46.71.

The 1600 relay team of Wenning, Novak, Powell and Black was runner-up in 3:34.85.

Greensburg’s 3200 relay team of Powell, Jesse Herbert, Wenning and Nieman placed fourth at 9:28.56.

In the field events, Greensburg’s Matt Little finished second in the high jump at 6-1 with Novak seventh at 5-9. Will Senefeld took third in the shot put (45-8) with Harter fourth (43-9.75).

For the girls, East Central had an impressive 181. The Lady Pirates finished at 96 followed by South Dearborn 85, Batesville 55, Franklin County 38 and Lawrenceburg 38.

Taryn Owens won the conference title in the 100 hurdles with a time of :16.24 and came back to take the 300 hurdle title in :50.22.

Mollye Leas won the conference title in the discus with a distance of 106-6 and in the shot put with a toss of 35-9. Teammate Erica Schwering was second in the discus at 96-2 and second in the shot put at 34-10.75.

Greensburg’s 3200 relay team of Owens, Ann Weigel, Veronica Tuley and Brianna Parsons finished third at 11:10.49.

Katie Bruns took eighth in the 100 (:14.04) and fifth in the long jump with a leap of 14-7.25.

Shelbi Reed crossed the line fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:03.91.

In the 800, Weigel finished fifth in 2:38.18 with Parsons sixth in 2:41.

Greensburg’s 1600 relay team of Parsons, Weigel, Reed and Owens took third in 4:23.58.

Tuley placed sixth in the 1600 (6:08.46) with teammate Val Hagerty seventh (6:13.30). Tuley was also fifth in the 3200 with a time of 13:07.42.

Greensburg’s 400 relay team of Bruns, Hannah Houk, Casey Nelson and Sabrina Smiley finished fourth in :56.61.

In the high jump, Greensburg’s Tawna Chauncy was runner-up with a height of 5-2. Tara Ramer finished fourth at 4-10.

Greensburg’s Casey Nelson was sixth in the pole vault (6-6) with Parsons seventh (6-0).

The Lady Pirates travel to the Franklin County Sectional Tuesday.

The Pirates compete in the East Central Sectional Thursday.
