General Notes: Robert FitzRoy, 1st Earl of Gloucester was an illegitimate son of King Henry I of England. He was the half-brother of the Empress Matilda, and her chief military supporter during the civil war known as The Anarchy, in which she vied with Stephen of Blois for the throne of England Robert married Countess Maud de Creully Dame de Creully, daughter of Robert FitzHamon Seigneur de Creully in Calvados & Torigny-in-Manche, Governor of Caen and Sybil Montgomery, about 1119. (Countess Maud de Creully Dame de Creully was born in 1094 in Caen, Calvados, Normandy, France and died on 29 Sep 1157 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.) |
