* January Circle Entertains WSCS

The January Circle entertained the W. S. C. S. at the Methodist Church, Thursday afternoon.

During a short business meeting presided over by the president, Mrs. Lester Schuerman, reports from several of the secretaries and committees were given and approved.

Mrs. E. D. Russell, assistant circle leader, had charge of the worship service. Her theme was "The Whole of Love is My America." Mrs. Olive McClaran was pianist for the song service.

Prof. Oscar Butler, director of vocal music at Iowa Wesleyan College, and Carroll Rickey, one of the students, provided two choice musical numbers.

Mrs. W. R. Haymac, leader of the Circle, presented Mrs. Nellie Hale-McCosh, who introduced the guest speaker, Benjamin Luke, a student at Iowa Wesleyan College, who spoke of his homeland, India. Mr. Luke has as his goal a desire to see India benefit from America's advanced knowledge and experience, particularly along the Christian and agricultural lines.

Tea, cake, candles and nuts were served from a most attractive tea table, decorated with poinsettias and lighted tapers. Mrs. E. D. Russell presided at the tea table. Members of the Circle served.

* Mt. P. Academy Reunion Held at Saunders Park

Twenty-five former students of the Mt. Pleasant Academy that was organized by the late Prof. Lincoln Antrim in 1897 and was closed in 1905 when he became County Superintendent of schools, and several friends, met for their annual picnic at the cabin in Saunders park, Sunday, September 7th [1952].

A delightful day was spent in reminiscing and visiting. A most excellent cooperative dinner was partaken of with zest and the coffee made and served by Mrs. Manly Frazer was a nice addition to the dinner.

The afternoon business meeting was called to order by the vice-president, Mrs. Laura Coe. After the routine business, letters from Harry E. Virden of 628 East Lime Street, Lakeland, Florida, and from Sadie Breazeale Moon of La Grange, California, were read and thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. Lillian Maynard Whittaker told of visiting Mr. and Mrs. Virden, while in Florida. He asked that each sign their name and the list be sent him, which was done. Each one present told of memories of their school days and events of the past as well as the present.

It was gratifying to have ones attend who had been in the first year of school among them being: Fred Oldt; Mrs. Lillian Whittaker, and Lawrence D. Russell. One student of the opening of the school year of 1907 and who was in till it closed January 1903, State Representative Raymond Cornick and Mrs. Cornick were also present.

Ones known to have passed on within the last year were June Percival Myers, Mt. Pleasant; Edith Lynn Chandler in Maryland; Allan Reed in North Dakota; Jennie Reed Horton in Chicago; and Homer Payne of Wayland.

Officers for 1953 are: President, Elmer Reed; vice-president, Mrs. Laura Coe; sec.-treasurer, Mrs Grace Elliott. The reunion is to be the first Sunday in September at the cabin in Saunders.
