William L. McGinness was 1st married on Nov. 7, 1854 in Lafayette County, Missouri to Irish immigrant Eliza L. Matthews, a daughter of James Matthews and Nancy Caulfield.

Eliza passed away on Jan. 26, 1857 and was laid to rest at the McGinness Cemetery in Lafayette County, Missouri, as were her parents, James and Nancy Matthews, and sister, Mary Ann Matthews Pool, as well as Mary's husband, Samuel Pool. William remarried Sept. 17, 1857 in Lafayette County, Missouri to Eliza L. Matthews' younger sister Ann Jane Matthews, known as Jane.

William married Eliza L. Matthews, daughter of James Matthews and Nancy, on 7 Nov 1854 in Lafayette County, Missouri, USA. (Eliza L. Matthews died on 26 Jan 1857 and was buried in McGinness Cemetery, Lafayette County, Missouri.)

William next married Ann Jane Matthews, daughter of James Matthews and Nancy. (Ann Jane Matthews was born in 1839 in Ireland and died in 1907 in Lafayette County, Missouri, USA.)
