Jane Matthews immigrated from Ireland to America in 1842, aboard the ship "Southerner." She is listed on the ship's manifest as "Ann Jane", along with parents, James and Nancy (Caulfield) Matthews, her 3 brothers and 2 sisters, James' brothers, Andrew and David Matthews and their sister, Rose Matthews Pool, as well as her 6 sons.

Jane was the second wife of William L. McGinness. They were married on September 17, 1857 in Lafayette County, Missouri. Jane was a younger sister of William's first wife, Eliza L. Matthews McGinness, who passed away on Jan. 26, 1857 and was laid to rest at the McGinness Cemetery (on private land) in Lafayette County, Missouri.

Ann married William L. McGinness. (William L. McGinness was born on 4 Dec 1831 in Saint Louis, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA ² and died on 4 Jul 1911 in Lafayette County, Missouri, USA ².)
