John LEAS was born on October 12, 1809 in Lewisburg, Preble Co., OH.4 John
Leas, father of Anderson and Asa Leas,moved to West Manchester and established their business in 1857 under the name of Townsend & Company. They were engaged in the dry goods and grocery business, and were also large buyers of grain and wool. They were the largest grain buyers in the country. In 1863 John Leas took in Anderson as a partner, and in 1867, his brother Asa became a partner.
They carried on the business under the name of A.& A. Leas.

He died on November 23, 1873 in West Manchester, Preble Co, OH.4 He was buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg, Preble Co, OH.7 He is reference number Leas GB p95. John LEAS and Sarah "Sallie" TILLMAN were married on June 16, 1836 in Preble Co, OH.6,8 They were married by Nathan Worley, Minister of the Gospel.

9. Sarah "Sallie" TILLMAN was born on October 29, 1821.1 She died on February
17, 1909.1 She was buried on February 20, 1909 in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg,
Preble Co, OH. John LEAS and Sarah "Sallie" TILLMAN had the following children:

ii. Anderson LEAS was born in 1839 in Harrison Twp, Preble Co, OH.4 He

SENTENCE: Appointed]4 He died in 1900. He was buried in Roselawn Cemetery,
Lewisburg, Preble Co, OH. He was a postmaster for about 15 years. in West
Manchester, Preble Co, OH.4 He was an in charge of the railroad office of the
Pittsburgh, Cincinnati & St. Louis railroad for about 12 yrs.4
